  • It is my great honor to announce I won the 2023 Ninth Letter Literary Award in Poetry with my poem “Servants of God”. Thank you to the beautiful journal, its readers, and editors, Chet’la Sebree, for judging and to all the finalists.
Chet’la Sebree’s words on the poem: "“Servants of God” does what I love most about ekphrastic poems. It not only renders the painting for unfamiliar readers but lingers on details that give us insight into the speaker as it zooms in and out on the central artwork, which somehow both is and is not the center of the poem. As we move closer to and farther away from the painting, we sit alongside the speaker at dinner tables as they seamlessly stitch into the poem’s fabric conversations about biblical iconography, immigration, familial relations, and the legacy of casta paintings."
